:: Bantayan Economy
FISH PRODUCTION
Bantayan is essentially a fishing island-group. Its tropical marine waters are known to be rich in marine resources for years beyond count. It is reported to be within the migration route of fishes from the equatorial belt to the China Sea.
Although, there are hundreds of commercial fishing boats in actual operation (some powered, others are sailed and rowed), within 30 fathom line, the fish production is all the time on the upward trend. If properly developed, the fishing industry in this island group would not only supply the island with enough fish for local consumption, but the rest could be exported to other towns and cities both fresh and dried. Needless to say, the Bantayan waters abound with food fish at present.
It cannot be denied that Bantayan has no rivers, lakes, flood fields and brackish waters where commercial and sustenance fishing could be carried on, but there are swamps some of which are now converted into fish ponds.
